For the third consecutive year, HL Group Oy has successfully completed its Inteliam assessment, affirming their commitment to enhancing sustainability within the automotive aftermarket. Markku Nikkinen, Managing Director, agreed to share his insights on how the Inteliam platform has been pivotal in refining their environmental strategies and driving substantial improvements across their operations.
Having just completed your third Inteliam assessment, how would you summarize your experience?
Each year with Inteliam, we find it easier to navigate the system and better understand how to meet our sustainability targets. This year, we added the task of calculating our CO₂ emissions. Despite the challenges of gathering the necessary data, Inteliam's support made it manageable, and it's a step we're proud to take as we prepare for our first sustainability report.
Your current score surpasses last year's. Could you share the actions you've taken that led to this improvement?
We focus on continuous small improvements rather than sweeping changes. We have long-term projects in place, like adopting electric vehicles in our company car policy and optimizing delivery routes to minimize environmental impact. These actions contribute incrementally but significantly to our better scores each year.
What advice would you offer to a company considering Inteliam's solution?
Inteliam is definitely worthwhile, especially for companies that are already aligned with ISO and environmental standards.
It offers fresh insights and lays out practical steps for enhancing sustainability efforts. Initially, it may take some time to gather all the necessary information, but the platform is user-friendly. One of the most valuable aspects is the tailored feedback and specific action suggestions provided by the Inteliam team, which have been instrumental in helping us make targeted improvements.

Sustainability is a crucial part of our daily operations now, and Inteliam helps clarify and tackle complex sustainability issues through manageable steps.

What are your future plans following this renewal?
We aim to publish our first sustainability report next year and will continue using Inteliam to benchmark and enhance our performance. Our goal is to keep improving and to use the tools provided to find new areas for enhancement.
